In the Glass – Aug 2011

August 23rd, 2011 by karen

  • Chabivin Jean Michael Brut MCC – I cannot get enough of these bubblies from the one of the handful of estates in South Africa who only make, and sell, sparkling wines
  • Dornier Donatus  Red 2004 – sharing a bottle of good wine is one of my favourite things to do.  This bottle was shared with my hubby and friend, Melissa Chetty aka @Merlot_Girl
  • Muratie Laurens Campher & George Paul Canitz Pinot Noir – enjoyed at the estate with winemaker and owner – Francois and Rijk. The Laurens Campher  is a Chenin driven blend with Sauvignon Blanc, Verdehlo and a small amount of Chardonnay as supporting characters.  The wine has a lovely medium body and presence in the mouth with a crisp finish.  A treat to taste their George Paul Canitz Pinot Noir 2009 offering complex savoury notes with a fruit finish
  • Haute Cabriere Unwooded Pinot Noir 2011 – sent as a gift from the estate I was intrigued by the simplicity yet elegance of this wine offering ripe cherry and cranberry flavours without the complexity of oak influence.  I think this wine achieves exactly what they set out to do – create an accessible wine to introduce non-red-wine-drinkers into the realm of Pinot Noir
  • Steenberg MCC, Villiera Brut Tradition MCC, Waterford CWG Reserve ’05 – sadly a very good friend Dusan Jelic @stefanluka is leaving our shores shortly.  A few of us got together at a farewell luncheon and these were a few wines we shared amongst us on the day
