KGB Wine Club enters Blaauwklippen Blending Competition

June 30th, 2011 by karen

One of the very first events I attended, after heading out on my own into the wine world as KGB Wine, was the event hosted by Blaauwklippen to announce the winner of their blending competition.  We got to taste the “top 4” as chosen by the panel previously and the winner was announced on the evening.  It was awesome to see what interest and intrigue the event created and thus, three years on, I entered my wine club for this years 28th Annual Blending Competition.

Seeking the palates, company and passion of Ingrid (@kungfukittypow), Dusan (@stefanluka) and my ever supportive hubby (@torabisu) we headed to the private tasting room at French Toast Wine and Tapas Bar.  The photos above I believe tell the story better than I can………  Gosh did we have fun!

Having been sent a bottle each of Merlot, Malbec, Petit Verdot and Zinfandel, along with a measuring cylinder and a brief of the specific style of wine they were looking for, we each put our proposed blends together.  Working off Ingrid’s, who bravely blended hers first, and at least another 4 “fine-tuning” attempts we came to a consensus of our favourite recipe.

The numbers are in! And now, we wait.  Holding thumbs, crossing toes and all those good things waiting for the results.  Wish us luck:)

Unfortunately we didn’t win but our wine was given a score of 15.54 which in “wine-speak” means a Silver. Very proud:)
