Latest Food & Wine Experiences

I’m sure you’ll all agree with me that April was a mad month with all the holidays. This meant a lot more socialising and eating out than ever – if you can believe it!  Unfortunately I did not get to take photos and make proper tasting and pairing notes at all the restaurants but I could not let the opportunity pass of sharing some suggestions with you.  So I have included an overview of my favourite “Food & Wine” experiences for the month below along with sharing some favourite foodie bloggers own experiences and restaurant weblinks:

  • Salt @ Ambassador Hotel – we used our Groupon voucher for lunch including a glass of La Motte Sauvignon Blanc. Needless to say we couldn’t go without some bubbly and a few additional courses but the voucher was our inspiration to get us back to this amazing sea view after a fairly long time away
  • La Petite Ferme – I took one of my groups of tour guests for lunch whilst in the winelands. Always got great memories of this restaurant where my hubby and celebrated out engagment!
  • Food Barn – This is where my hubby and I spent out 1st wedding anniversary 🙂 We chose the food and wine pairing menu – excellent!! This menu changes regularly and Drizzle and Dip posted recently on their latest Winter menu paired with Steenberg wines – nothing short of genius!
  • La Mouette – I wrote a blog last month on our first experience at this Sea Point restaurant. We have since returned for their “2 for the price of 1 special”. Again, we chose the food and wine pairing menu, where Chef Henry pulled out all the stops. This amazing special is continuing for May, but with a revamped and updated menu. I know we will be back for this one!
  • Long Table @ Dombeya Wine Estate – Werner, based in the Dombeya Tasting Room, treated my guests and myself to a “hat-trick” Tri Nations wine tasting of New Zealand, Australian and South African wines before we had a delectable yet casual lunch ranging from salads to Springbok with one of the loveliest views in the Stellenbosch winelands.
  • Massimo’s – We have already visited Massimo and Tracy at their newly re-opened pizza spot that is causing such a buzz in Hout Bay twice! For truly authentic Italian pizza and atmosphere be sure you do too! Read Drizzle and Dips blog if you dont believe me.
  • The Common Room @ La Quartier Francais – My hubby and I are huge fans of tapas style menu’s where we can share various options on the menu. My tour guests had 2 hours free exploration time in Franschhoek and we thus embraced the opportunity to have lunch here. Highly recommended choices include: baked dalewood camembert / soldiers, springbok bitterballen / apple mustard, and the STAR of the show, crispy smoked pork ribs / roast garlic.
  • Societi Bistro – At last we got to visit another restaurant that has been tumbling off twitter colleagues lips for months. We loved the warm, casual atmosphere and almost all ordered off the seasonal “Specials of the Day” menu which were well received all round. High praise indeed for Chef Stefan Marais! They are currently hosting a tour through Italy, at least 19 reasons to give them a go!
