Warwick Wine & Picnic

Casual and inviting tasting area at Warwick

In my capacity as a tour guide I have taken several of my guests to the picnic at Warwick which is always incredibly well received. The picnic is most often combined with the Big 5 Wine Safari. This involves taking a vineyard tour in Land Rover Safari vehicles where their guides introduce the ‘Big 5’ grape varieties and educate guests about. For groups of 5 or more the picnic is then enjoyed in the Warwick Penthouse, a dedicated picnic site on top of the estate

On a beautiful Saturday in March, I was excited to head to the farm in Stellenbosch on a social outing with a group of friends.  On arrival we were made comfortable on the ample grassy area with umbrellas, cushions and, due to the size of our group, a couple of benches had been placed under the trees as well

Our group was fairly split in choice between the Gourmet and Vegetarian picnic options, all made from the freshest seasonal ingredients and delightful flavour combinations.  My highlight was to hear they have started labelling a bubbly under their Warwick brand (sourced from Twee Jonge Gezellen) for people who are enjoying the picnics – big thumbs up!  Hubby and I chose the Gourmet picnic made up of taste bud delights including: a fresh cous cous salad, home made Rooibos and oak smoked Norwegian salmon, selected cheeses, sliced charcuterie, all to be enjoyed on freshly baked Ciabatta and accompanied by delicious biltong, mushroom and brandy pate, homemade apple apple, pear and pecan chutney, olive tapenade and sundried tomato puree.  Enticed yet? 🙂

Nom Nom Nom

To then be able to explore the surrounding area, the tasting room, chat to some lovely gentlemen enjoying a glass of wine in the forest courtyard, play a few games of boules and just chill for hours under the trees was the perfect ending to a fantastic day
